The latest Massachusetts sports betting revenue reports are in, and DraftKings continues to hold a sizable lead over the field.

The latest Massachusetts sports betting revenue reports are out, and they make one thing absolutely, positively, inarguably clear: DraftKings remains, well, King of The Bay State.

April 2025 is the latest available batch of data for sports betting in Massachusetts , these reports typically run a month or two behind, while the Massachusetts Gaming Commission works to acquire and confirm revenue streams.

According to the most recent figures, the Massachusetts sports betting revenue for the month reached $65.9 million. This marks a 34.2 percent year-over-year increase when compared to April 2024. It is also nearly a 26 percent increase month-over-month relative to March 2025.

DraftKings’ own revenue stream, though, poses the most staggering figure of all. Of the $65.9 million in taxable profits made by Massachusetts sportsbooks for the month, a whopping $37.8 million was made from DK alone. That is more than 57 percent of all revenue generated across every bookie in the state.

And believe it or not, DraftKings’ dominance gets even more pronounced when looking at raw volume.

Online Sports Betting Remains a Juggernaut in The Bay State

While we often like to traffic in pure revenue, sports betting handles are useful tools to gauge the level of activity in each market. For anyone not familiar with these numbers, the “handle” refers to the total amount of money wagered by bettors. It is not the amount of revenue generated by sportsbooks, or even the amount of tax revenue collected by the state.

In the month of April, the Massachusetts sports betting handle checked in at $690.3 million. Of that money wagered, $680.5 million was spent at various online sportsbooks in the United States, while less than $10 million was processed through retail locations.

Essentially, then, 98.5 percent of all Massachusetts sports betting business was funneled through an online website or application. That is a jaw-dropping share of the volume. In today’s landscape, however, it is also fairly typical.

Indeed, some markets aren’t seeing 95-plus percent of their bets placed through online sportsbooks. But by the end of 2025, we would be shocked if at least 92 to 95 percent of all sports bets placed in the United States were not run through some type of online medium.

DraftKings Makes Up a Ton of the Massachusetts Sports Betting Handle

Now, looking at DraftKings, specifically, we can see their betting volume ed for more than 50 percent of all bets from The Bay State. What’s more, they virtually doubled the business of every other sportsbook in Massachusetts. Here is Robert Fletcher of iGaming Business with the full breakdown:

“Looking at online operators, DraftKings remained the state’s runaway leader with $37.8 million in revenue from $343 million in bets. This resulted in a monthly hold of 11.02 percent. FanDuel was its closest challenger, earning $17.9 million off $185.9 million for a 9.63 percent hold. In third was BetMGM with $3.9 million from $55.1 million, leaving a hold of 7.08 percent. Other operators of note include Fanatics, which took $3.1 million from $49.3 million for a 6.3 percent hold. ESPN Bet was the only other brand to exceed the $1 million revenue mark. During April, it generated $1.8 million off a $21.7 million handle, resulting in a 4.61 percent hold.”

It comes as no surprise that DraftKings and FanDuel together make up over 77 percent of all Massachusetts online sports betting volume. Both operators are ubiquitous in the industry, and easily among the most popular online sports betting apps in the United States. Some even go as far as to say they have their own monopoly on the online industry.

Regardless, DraftKings ing for over 50 percent of that all online volume in Massachusetts on its own is absurd. For context, the $343 million in bets they accepted during this span is 185 percent more than FanDuel. Again: This is bonkers.

Should the Popularity of DraftKings in Massachusetts Surprise Us?

On the one hand, DraftKings’ market dominance seems inconceivable. On the other hand, it is not exactly snake-you-in-the-face surprising.

DraftKings is, for lack of better phrasing, the hometown sportsbooks. They were founded in 2012 right in Boston, Massachusetts. The localization of their brand is ingrained. It is not necessarily that they offer Massachusetts sports bettors much better markets or online sports betting bonuses. Sure, in certain months, they might. Mostly, though, this is about brand recognition.

Just as both DraftKings and FanDuel are synonymous with sports betting in the United States overall, DraftKings itself is inextricably tied to The Bay State. Poll any number of people who bet on sports in Massachusetts, and we would wager that over 95 percent of them think of DraftKings before their minds go FanDuel.

This logic holds up when looking at sports betting in New York. FanDuel is based out of The Big Apple and receives a similar “hometown” bump when looking at total volume. For all of last year, FanDuel accepted $10.2 billion in bets from New Yorkers. DraftKings, meanwhile, took in around $8.6 billion.

And yet, while this follows the same trend, it is nowhere on the same level as DraftKings’ lead in the Massachusetts sports betting market. FanDuel accepted roughly 119 percent more money in bets last year from New Yorkers than DraftKings. That is degrees below the commanding lead DraftKings held over FanDuel inside the Massachusetts sports betting market.

The takeaway from all this? DraftKings is sitting on The Bay State’s sports betting throne, and it’ll be a genuine shocker if FanDuel or anyone else unseats them—not just anytime soon, but at all.
