Shane Van Gisbergen
Shane Van Gisbergen is often regarded as the premier road course driver by sportsbooks and leading analysts, mainly due to his extensive experience outside of NASCAR. Since ing the Cup Series in 2023, he has claimed one road course victory, which occurred at Chicago that season.
Additionally, SVG also triumphed at Chicago in the Xfinity Series during the 2024 season and achieved consecutive road race wins in Portland and Sonoma the previous year. To sum it up, Van Gisbergen has amassed four road victories across NASCAR’s top two national series.
In his previous year, he participated in only 12 Cup Series races while competing full-time in the Xfinity Series, with his best finish being a runner-up at the historic Watkins Glen.
It seems likely that Van Gisbergen will be in contention for the victory this Sunday, but the question remains: are his low odds worth the gamble?
For SVG, securing a win at a road course is crucial to clinching a Playoff spot; otherwise, his lackluster results in the 2025 season may exclude him from postseason contention.
Chase Elliott
Whenever I think of road course drivers in the Cup Series, Chase Elliott comes to mind as my top choice. I believe he stands out as the best full-time road course driver in the series, and arguably, he's the most accomplished. With seven wins and an impressive average finish of 8.8 in road course events, he really sets the bar high.
As it stands, the #9 car is currently in 5th place in the standings, but Elliott has also been one of the most consistent drivers this season, managing to navigate without a DNF so far. He finished 4th at COTA this year and is consistently a Top 5 contender whenever it comes to road racing.

I have a feeling that by the end of the race in Mexico City on Sunday, the #9 car could very well find itself in the mix for a win.

Kyle Larson
Aside from Elliott, I'm really excited about Kyle Larson, his Hendrick Motorsports teammate, this weekend. The #5 car is currently second in the standings and either leads or is tied for the lead in wins, top 5 finishes, top 10 finishes, laps led, stages won, and playoff points.
In essence, he’s been the top driver in the Cup Series this year. Additionally, Larson boasts an impressive road course record that nearly matches Elliott’s, which is quite a statement. He has six wins on road courses out of 37 starts. Recently, he claimed victory in two road races last year at ROVAL and Sonoma, both of which are part of the schedule.

When approaching new tracks with limited data on drivers’ performances, it’s essential to consider their overall talent and past success at comparable venues. Larson excels in both areas.
He’s a top 10 driver with the potential to win races. I would on Larson at these odds.
Kyle Busch
Kyle Busch has proven himself on nearly every type of track across all three of NASCAR's major series. Throughout his career, he has secured four victories on road courses, with his most recent win at Sonoma in 2015.
Don't be misled by that statistic, though. Since the 2023 race at COTA, Busch has consistently performed well, boasting four Top 5 finishes and five Top 10s in road course events. He finished 5th at COTA this past spring.
In my opinion, Busch presents solid value with his Top 5 odds at +240. While it may not be a huge return, there's a sense of optimism regarding his performance this Sunday, especially since he claimed victory at this venue back in 2008 during the last Xfinity race held there.
